I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor. —Henry David Thoreau
Welcome to “Independent Lessons: reflections on meaningful education“– a blog sourced by independent-school educators and students, and dedicated to best practices in and contingent reflections on education. The reflections offered here should provide insight into lifelong learning– applicable to elementary, secondary, higher, and lifelong education. The range of these reflections will be both expansive and inclusive– ranging in and out of all areas of independent-school life: academics, athletics, arts, student and residential life, service, and leadership. The intended audience includes teachers, administrators (heads, deans, department heads, etc.), coaches, directors, advisors, dorm faculty, parents, and more.
Independent Lessons seeks to curate keen, reflective, and meaningful thinking and cross-pollinate ideas for those interested in meaning– and thus, meaningful education.
So, here’s to our unquestionable ability to elevate teaching and learning by conscious endeavor.
